What Qualifies As Baby’s “first Step”?

Is it when he takes a step WITHOUT any assistance from furniture or people? Or is it when he puts one foot in front of the other while holding on to something? I just want to make sure I keep track accurately in case he wants to know when he gets older.

  1. Pregnant with Baby #2 on October 28th, 2009 at 11:26 am

The first step is usually when the baby walks without any assistance from funiture or people. My son took his first real step about two months after he started walking around the furniture, so it won’t be long. When my son first did it, he didn’t even realize he had done it. He kind of just set down slowly afterwards.

  2. First step means without assistance, and holding onto to furniture and such is considered cruising. Which they do a lot of before they walk.

  3. w/o any assistance

  4. When he first steps without holding onto anything. That’s what I’ve always counted.

  5. It’s when they take their first unassisted steps, without holding on to someone or something.
This sounds bad, but I don’t remember details of when either of my kids started walking. That is to say, I don’t remember about the FIRST steps. I do remember probably within 24 hours after the first steps of my older little boy, but the weird thing about him is that he wasn’t coming anywhere CLOSE to walking (really late, at almost 20 months), then one day he got up and walked across the house.
    I miss the pre-walking days…………………

  6. w/o assistant of anything and he is still a sec before he falls.

  7. I am guessing that it is when there is no assistance from anything/anybody. But, it depends on how the family sees it.
    Hope I helped
