Are There Any Moms That Let There Babies Sleep In A Car Seat?
I have been trying to get my baby to sleep in his crib but he prefer to sleep in his car seat. I want to know if you have let them sleep in there car seat for a long period of time and did it do any damage to there back.

My daughter slept in her car seat for the first couple of months. After that, I brought her into bed with me. Anyway, no damage has been done to her back, and I actually didn’t know there were any risks. My mother had me sleep in my car seat for a while after I was born, and with all of my sisters to follow in that.
This is actually recommended for babies with reflux, but only because the benefits outweigh the risks in those cases. You already know that there is a connection with damage to their back and neck, why take the risk? Your baby will have to sleep in a crib at some point, you won’t have a 12 month old sleeping in their car seat, so it would be better for all to teach him now that sleep happens in the crib.
Like the first poster said, only for severe cases of reflux. A common problem with infants sleeping in carseats is plagiocephaly (misshapen head, usually flattening) which can lead to your baby having to wear a helmet.
It’s hard to get them used to sleeping in a crib because of it being spacious, it’s overwhelming. Is s/he still small enough to fit in a bassinet. They’re smaller, so babies feel less vulnerable. What about swaddling, have you tried that? You just have to be persistent, and s/he will get used to sleeping in a crib. When my daughter was younger I would have to stay in here room and rub her belly for what seemed like hours (probably not hours, but it was a while) rubbing her belly, and making her feel safe.
My son is 13 months, and since the day he was born – If he fell asleep in the carseat while we were out, we would take the carseat out of the car and take it inside with us, leaving him strapped in and asleep, when he woke up, we would take him out. ( Usually this would only last maybe half an hour or so. )
But this is rare now, it used to be quite common that he would want to sleep in the car, now he is more interested in what is out the window. =]
No damage was done to his back, and it actually helped when he had problems with gas. ( But as the first poster said – It CAN lead to problems.. And a 12 month old sleeping all night in a car seat.. Imagine what you would think if you saw someone else doing that? )
If you are having serious trouble trying to introduce the cot – Why not introduce a ‘comfort’ item that he can sleep with? This worked a charm for us, and now, he still sleeps with his favorite ‘blankie’. ( When he had to stay in hospital over night for an allergy problem, this helped so much too. )
Once he is used to sleeping with this certain item, try placing him in his cot with the item, but only when he is VERY dozy. After a while, this should help get him used to sleeping in his cot.. Another thing that helped was music in the nursery. My son has an aquarium cot toy that plays “Twinkle Twinkle” with lights and bubbles.. It distracts my son long enough for him to fall asleep.. We have never had to cry it out since getting it. =] ( Not that it is a good idea to allow them to CIO )
You didn’t post how old your son is, so this is help regarding what I know with my little boy. =]
I wouldn’t risk it. Try using a lot of pillows in the crib to support the baby. It might help them adjust to sleeping in a crib better.
i think its a risky thing….
so i would make a set inside home with looks like car seat and allow baby to sleep there with all safety precautions taken…….
put them in the crib they need to get used to their bed …
