At What Age Is It Ok For Babies To Use Lotion, Baby Powder, Diaper Cream And That Kind Of Stuff?

The hospital told me not to use products on her right away but I’m unsure when its ok ( the only thing I use on her is baby bath soap).

you can use those product when ever you feel the need. My nicu told us that don’t use the baby lotion to make them smell good use it for them to get moister. the baby powder I use it but they said don’t just splash it on there butt because it can get into there lung. So what I do is I turn from the babies and I put it on my hands and just sprinkle it on there butts. and I wipe some underneath they chins. because sometime when they spit up they get it caught there its really gross. I use baby oil after the lotion to lock in the moister. I didn’t use baby wipe on them till they were 2 months old though. The nicu gave us these paper wipes you just put water on em. it was better for them. from the the day they were born we used the Johnson and Johnson baby stuff for there baths. and the best stuff for rash or to prevent a rush is us A and D its just a vitamin cream Good luck and congrats.

  2. I used all that stuff as soon as her cord fell off.
Yes, baby’s skin is sensitive, but it also needs moisture from a good baby lotion.

The hospital here told us not to use any creams, etc. etc. on them until they’re 2 weeks old. I’m assuming that your child is over 2 weeks if they’re having baths already.
P.S. They tell you to wait on the lotions, creams, etc. because the baby’s skin is EXTREMELY sensitive. Trust me it’s best to wait, than to risk a rash that will make the baby even more uncomfortable.

  4. I started using it practically right away, after the umbilical cord fell off I started using lotion after his bath. I used diaper cream when he had a rash from constipation at like 6weeks old.

  5. My daugher was a micro premature infant born 14 yrs ago weighing in at 1.7 pounds. At that time they did not use baby soap on her because her skin was so thin you could see through it. As her skin got “tougher” thats when they used it. As for my son he was born 5 weeks early and the day after he was born they used Johnsons baby bath and lotion on him to clean him up so that I could hold him for the first time. I brought him home with me gave him a sponge bath 2 -3 times a week til his cord fell off with the Huggies Washcloths that have the soap already in them. Once the cord came off he got regular baths with lotion and still does. Lotion puts moisture back into the skin that is lost naturally. As for baby powder I dont suggest ever using it. Simply beacuse when you squirt it onto the baby that cloud of “dust” is in haled by your child. Diaper cream when they have a rash however I my friend always puts a thin layer of A&D or vasline on her babies bottom to keep the moisture completely off it, her son was also 5 weeks early.

  6. I used baby products right away, but I was sure to use natural products.
Mineral oil and vaseline are petroleum products and are very bad, and not only for the skin – and baby oil from the grocery store contains mineral oil. So you should use products that are all natural.
You should look into Arbonne’s ABC Baby Care products. They are botanically based, contain no animal products or byproducts, contain no mineral oil, and are certified vegan. Check here to find out about it:http://GreatSkinGreatLife.myarbonne.com
I can send you samples if you want.

  7. i us3d min3s right away

  8. i started using the lotion right away, i thought it would be soothing. i never used the powder, they were so messy and back then there was a rumer about it causing cancer. i used the diaper cream when he had a rash and he had about 3 of them in 1 1/2 years.

  9. You’ll want to check this out on ingredients. I stopped using J&J when I saw this. http://www.ewg.org/reports/skindeep2/sea…

  10. That’s sounds odd that they would tell you not to use it right away… I used the stuff right away and of course you have to wait until the first bath but you can do a sponge bath and put lotion afterwards, I only used diaper cream when there was a rash but used powder all the time – you want your baby to smell sooooo good!

  11. EEK! Dont use baby powder!!! It can get in their lungs…. use corn starch!!! I know it sounds weird, but they have all sorts of studies that say it gets in little lungs and can really hurt them. Also, my ped. told me not to use lotion, just use good ole vaseline, and it’s been working so far :) As for diaper cream, use it only when you HAVE to… you can use them now, but I am a firm believer the more you use it, the more you will HAVE to use it. Unless it looks like she really has a rash, I wouldnt go near it. As a matter of fact, before it got to that, I would call the doc to see if he wanted to see the rash first… he could just say put diaper cream on it :)

  12. u can use it on ur baby right now..if u have a girl i wouldnt use baby powder though it might cause a yeast infection other than that everything else is fine.
