Cheese and Rice!! Don’t listen to know nothings that claim you cannot!
The law is on-line, check it yourself:
CVC 27360. … a child or ward under the age of six years who weighs less than 60 pounds may ride in the front seat of a motor vehicle, if properly secured in a child passenger restraint system that meets applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards, under any of the following circumstances:
(A) There is no rear seat…..
The law is not generally unreasonable.
No you may not. You risk being stopped by a patrol car. At least in California, a car seat is never to be put in the front.
Even worse, you are putting your child’s life at risk. A car seat is not designed for the front seat. If your seat is large enough, the seat will be able to slide all over the place.
Yes you can if this is your only way to transport the child just make sure that the car seat is correctly installed and the trucks seat is pushed as far back as possible and also if there is an airbag switch turn it off……
Seriously, where else would you put it?
The concern is if you have a passenger side air bag which cannot be disabled – do NOT put a child seat in front of it, ever.

What else would you intend on doing with him/her…
You are pretty much out of options
