No you shouldn’t take the babies away until they are almost 3-4 weeks old. After 4 weeks they are weaned from their mother and can be eating whole food.
Well, i have hamsters, a male and female. people told me to separate the mother, and father. the babies should stay with the mother for her milk. the father will eat the babies. if you:
touched the babies
cleaned the nesting area
cleaned the cage
already moved the babies
the mother picked up your scent, and thinks another hamster has been with her babies. Or she is a first time mother. When you separate the babies (if you do) feed them softer hamster food, such as alfalfa, they might have a chance of living. baby hamsters are recommended to be separated from their mother at 3 weeks old. so if you put them in a separate cage, feed them only soft food. hope i helped! good luck! -<[:o)
usually you need to wait at least 3 weeks old. basic signs to look if the pups are ready to be weaned:
1) are their eyes fully open?
2) can they stand on their hind legs?
3) can they eat solid food? (like nuts)
it may be possible the mom is stressed. try not to change the cage too much for the present. don’t hold her. don’t make loud noises. and put her in a dark place.
yes you can. But they need to get their mother milk too, so twice a day, let them be with their mother.
