Doc Think My Baby Is Getting Too Big But Will Not Induce Until Full Term?

My baby was measuring really big (head measured 37 weeks) at my ultrasound at 32 weeks so my doc is sending me for another ultrasound tomorrow to see if he is getting too big. He said if he is good size but no too big he will induce me at 37 weeks but that if he will be too big by 37 weeks for safe vaginal birth then we will have to do a c section because he will not induce me until I am full term. If the baby is too big for vaginal birth, will he schedule a c section for 37 weeks or do I have to wait til my original due date? He did not specify on this and I will ask him at y next appointment, but if anyone wants to speculate and give reasons for their speculation it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Well you’ll defiantly have to ask your doctor but my speculation is that if the baby is too big then they will also do the c-section at 37 weeks. The reason why they make you wait until 37 weeks is because that is considered full term and no doctor will induce prior to this time since the baby still undergoes development prior to 37 weeks.

i don’t know the answer to your question but i want to say thank you for asking this question im 30 weeks and my baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead and i was curious if they will induce towards the end if they start getting too big… thank you for giving me hope… isn’t it so nice to know they might come out sooner then expected? i don’t know about you but i sure am miserable and ready for this to be over!! good luck and i hope bubs doesn’t get TOOO big

  3. Other babies might be big for their gestational age but it doesn’t necessarily mean that their vital organs are fully developed. That’s the reason why they have to wait 37 weeks before inducing labor to make sure the baby has reached full term. Now whether the baby is ok for normal delivery, it will be answered by that time. If you’re a big lady then probably you can have a trial labor, if not the doctor will just schedule you for a c-section.
In my experience, you do not need to be induced by 37 weeks if your baby is doing good inside and you are doing fine as well. The reason inducing is done is because with such a big baby there might be possible issues when you have to wait for labor to begin naturally.
