Is There A Difference Between Children’s Motrin And Infant’s Motrin?

We bought children’s liquid Motrin instead of infant’s liquid Motrin for our 8 months old son. CAN WE USE CHILDREN’S MOTRIN INSTEAD OF INFANT’S? IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?

  1. Yes, you can use the children’s motrin but the dosage is different. I have a chart for it from the doctors Office so if you have your child’s weight (which you HAVE to know in order to give proper dosage) I can tell you the dosage.

  2. There is a difference, they are concentrated differently. You can use one in place of the other but pay attention to the milligrams of ibuprofen in the measured dose, look up the correct dose (in milligrams of ibuprofen) on the motrin website and give the appropriate dose (in milligrams of ibuprofen) of the children’s motrin.

  3. According to my pediatrician the difference is that the Children’s Motrin is less concentrated so they take more of it. For example, my 17 pound daughter takes 2 mg of the Infant Motrin, but 4 mg of the Children’s Motrin (again, as suggested by my pediatrician).
Call your pediatrician to ask, but they should be able to give you the proper dosage. If they tell you no though, go with what they say of course.
(edited to add.. what’s with the thumbs down? I said just about the same thing everyone else did)

  4. There is a difference in the concentration, so the dosage is completely different. Make sure you check the package instructions on dosage by weight for your baby and measure very carefully.

  5. yes, there is a difference. one is stronger. return the childrens motrin and get the infant one.
    better safe than sorry.

  6. yes there is a huge difference – do not give the childrens version to anyone under age 2.
