  1. Sica is 8wks with #3 on February 23rd, 2010 at 10:55 pm

I think it was rushed to the market to fast to stop the spread and there is NO WAY it was properly tested. Therefore my kids will not get it. We have never had the flu of any kind nor have we ever had flu shots.

  2. I didn’t have my children vaccinated for swine flu.
My reasons: It’s new, it hasn’t been around long enough to be sure that it wont cause any complications/side effects later on. Also, treatment for the swine flu is basically the same as for regular flu, and it’s not like it’s killing a ton of people, it’s not killing any more people than what the regular flu does. Most people that are affected really negatively by either flu is those that have compromised immune systems/health problems, not the average person. So if your child is normal than there’s no reason for them to have to get vaccinated.

  3. I don’t get the flu shot, and I haven’t had the flu since High School. I don’t see the need to be immunized against something I may not even be exposed to. I didn’t get my daughter any vaccinations because personally, I don’t see the need. There wasn’t enough research findings for H1N1 and babies for my liking, and that’s why I never got her the needle.

  4. I’d like to know why you don’t like it.
Do you dislike all flu shots or just the H1N1?
I am thankful that flu vaccines are available. While most people are able to fight off the flu with no complications, there are tens of thousands of people who die from the flu annually in the US. While my son may (or may not) be able to fight off the flu without serious complications, he is around people who cannot (elderly grandparents, friends with asthma, etc.). We get the flu shot, not only to protect ourselves, but also the people around us who may or may not survive getting the flu.

  5. Swine flu is no more dangerous than the normal seasonal flu. Since I do not even consider getting my kids the seasonal flu sot, I would not consider getting them the swine flu sot. (well, my children do not get any shots, actually…)
In my opinion, the shot poses a greater threat than the possibility of my children contracting and suffering complications to H1N1.

  6. As a mom to a daughter with a heart defect that is considered “immune compromised”, I am thankful that it is available to us.
In the end, you need to do your own research and weigh your options . . . in our case, the H1N1 and the seasonal flu could be fatal to my daughter. Any sort of respiratory condition if not properly treated and caught early is dangerous in our case. There are otherwise healthy adults and children who have been hospitalized (and even died) as a result of the flu so it was a no-brainer for us. Some people believe that it is not tested enough . . . but it is based on the same technology as the seasonal flu shot and was just as tested. The seasonal shot is “new” every year as the strains change.
I have 17 month old twins and both have been immunized for seasonal & H1N1 – they have had no adverse reactions to the vaccine and I sleep better at night knowing they have a bit of extra protection. My husband and I also both work with the public and have been immunized without reaction, too.
These are one of those things where you need to weigh risk factors and make the decision best for your family. The vaccine was the best decision for our family as my daughter is one that might not be able to survive the flu – I don’t want to be in the hospital with her knowing that it could have been prevented and in our specific situation the benefits of the vaccine out weigh any “possible” side effects.

  7. At first I saw it as some experimental thing I wouldn’t dare give to a child. But more recently, my sister told me about one of her friend’s kids (4yo I think?) that got swine flu and was hospitalized. He’s now using a walker to get around. That’s right, a kid in a walker.
I think Swine Flu in general has been over hyped by the media. It’s most likely not as rampant as they figured it would be. But it does appear to infect kids more than the regular flu does and it seems to be more harmful.

  8. first i was very skeptic about it so my husband and myself got our vaccine first and then we did extensive research on infant vaccines talk to the pediatrician multiple times and then after 3 long months of debates we finally decided to give it to our 8 months old after seeing how sick it made our 4 year old nephew and 25 year old brother-in-law i didn’t think an 8 moths old baby could handle it.

  9. I would not get my daughter the swine flu shot. It is the same shot that they had for the last swine flu in the 70’s. That shot was known to cause the Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
My 4 yr old stepdaughter had the swine flu, it’s no more dangerous than the regular flu.
