I have always been told by pediatricians, er dr.s and family drs. that you can alternate between tylenol and motrin. 6 hours for motrin and tylenol is 4 hours. so give the tylenol at 3 hours in between the motrin’s 6 hours if that makes any sense. Aceteminophin sp? is harder on the liver than motrin. motrin passes through better than tylenol.
I was told Tylenol until they reach 12 months. I think it is easier for their bodies to process. I personally like the dye free one as it has no high fructose corn syrup in it. Good luck to you.
The Doctor told me when my daughter had the chicken poxs and she was teething to use both and to alternate between the two. Because babies get used to whatever medication you are giving them and if you want the meds to be succesfull the best thing to do is alternate.
Tylenol is what i gave both my boys for fevers! and only Motrin when my oldest got to be around 1 for pain!
Hope this Helps!
Good Luck W/ Your Little One!
Tylenol is a better antipyretic-which means it works better on a fever. Motrin is a better antiinflammatory, which is better for pain and swelling. But I would stick with tylenol unless your doc orders anything else on a baby that young.
Another thing, the person below me that suggested using Motrin on a fever over 102 is wrong! If your baby has a fever over 101 take them to the emergency department or the doctors. A high fever can be deadly to a child.
If depends on how high the fever is. If it’s under 102, I would give him Tylenol. If it’s over, I would try Motrin. Watch him though because there is an allergy warning on Motrin, and it can be hard on their tummies. Motrin also lasts longer than Tylenol. I tend to give Tylenol during the day if the fever is over 101.5, and Motrin at night before bed. Make sure you verify dosing with you doctor.
Motrin is better for pain, and Tylenol is better for fever. My doctor told me because they have different active ingredients I could give my son both at the same time. Not two doses of the same med though. Hope this helps
I always found that for a fever a combo worked best. I give Tylenol than 4 hours later Motrin and 4 hours later Tylenol. This works best and I use name brand Motrin b/c it is the one thing I have found name brand is best. My ped. taught me this trick.
tylenol was recommended by my physician
