What Is The Reason That We As A Nation Have Such Horrible Statistics Regarding Things Like, Infant Mortality?
Homelessness, Illiteracy, violent crime, suicides, child poverty, etc,etc,etc.. All of these statistics are available with a simple google or a visit to the census bureau neither of which lend themselves to an “extreme left”. Also these stats are per_capita so don’t use our vast population as an excuse…
I love the United States..so here we go.. what’s up with us ? try to leave the partisan Bull$hit out of this and let’s brainstorm some real answers folks.. god bless us everyone

I’m not sure why. It seems that people in the USA care more about problems in other countries than at home. Do you realize that 13% of children in the USA go to bed hungry and wake up to having nothing to eat. I hope some day we start to care about the USA the way we care about everyone else.
Do you live in a third world country
The answer above is certainly terryfying. I also love (or used to love?) the U.S. where I have been educated. (U. of C.). The closest I can get to a reason is the vast difference in education in different economic levels, the emphasis in “success” as a purely economic motive, the lie that anybody can do anything if they just want to. The confusion between “equality” in human characteristics (and I don’t mean races) and equality of opportunities.
Perhaps a contributing factor is that most of the later immigrants have gone in look of ecenomical progress.
The U.S sure has a short history full of violence. More americans dia at the hand of americans that of foreigners, and the country has been involved in innumerable foreign conflicts (“from the halls os Montezuma to the shores of…). I believe it is close to one foreign intervention every two or three years.
I finally believe that there is a great barrier between its political leaders and its citizens. Too much hypocrisy at the upper level and too little interest amongs the citizenry, coupled with too much manipulation of the media.
Show me your stats in comparison to other countries. Your just making it up dude, and we all know it. Are you even American? Are you just STUPID?
It’s probably due to a number of factors.
I don’t have hard evidence of any of the following, but I’m fairly sure that I am close to the truth on them.
1. There are a large number of drug and alcohol addicted babies born in the US. They have horrible statistics.
2. Probably, there is a higher % of miscarriages in other countries. In US these babies are born with much lower chance to survive.
3. Many in this country just don’t care about their children. Probably many of the deaths are due to parental neglect. I realize that this one is very controversial and I don’t have hard statistics to back it up.
4. We keep better records than many other countries. Therefore, the poor get recorded here and not other places. Only the surviving babies get recorded there.
We lack socialism. We do not have free health care for all, and many of the other “benefits” other countries tax their citizens to death for.
In the US, it is still pretty much on YOU to get the help/services you need. Want health care? Better get a good job that offers it.
To me, it all boils down to one thing: Money. Most of the issues you mentioned are not a problem if you have money. With money, you get outstanding health care, therefore the expecting woman can have great pre and post natal care, and stay in the hospital for more than 24 hours after the birth. With money, you can get a outstanding education, and do well for yourself (and thus avoiding the horrible public education experience). And so on…….
Money, Money, Money.
Pollution and drug use are also higher in America than in several other countries so that may be one cause of the higher infant mortality rate
Instead of worrying too much about how other countries are governed and whether they have democracy, and instead of exporting revolutions to others, the American government should focus on domestic problems such as those narrated above and do something to improve the welfare of American people! The government should also practice what they preach and do away with double standards in dealing with international issues!
You might want to check out ANY country in Africa. Comparatively, we look very, very good. So what is your problem?
I don’t believe American stats are “horrible” in comparison to other countries. Tell me the stats you are talking about.
I think it happens because we haven’t learned yet that by putting money and effort into infants and small children, we will not need to spend as much on jails, mental wards, and welfare.
I think its the ongoing drug problem and an inability to successfully deal with people that have mental illnesses.
YOu have to keep in mind that often advances make these problems seem worse also. Infant Mortality is worse in the US because of our ability to keep premature infants alive for a period of time, where in other countries this is classified under miscarriages in other countries. Thus, there infant mortality rate only seems higher. This is true in Sweden for example.
/agreed , compared to the world we’re way up there.
