Whats Your Opinion About Pit Bulls And Babies?
I have a 2 month old and me and my fiance want a pit bull. We already have a terrier mix and we want a n pit bull puppy. He had one and I have always wanted one. I just want some feed back on how some think about having one with a little baby.

It always amazes me the crazy, propoganda-type misinformation about this breed. Pit bulls are not any more inclined to hurt a human than any other breed…in fact, a properly bred pit bull was considered the “babysitter breed”. It is the irresponsible breeders, and irresponsible owners who have allowed tragedies to happen. In fact, I am sure that many are unaware that a golden retriever killed a small child a few years back in New York state…..the dog kept pulling on the child’s scarf, but the brilliant mother put the two of them out in the back yard together, with the scarf still on the child. Who is more responsible there…the dog or the mother?
At any rate, regardless of breed, when you have a two month old baby, don’t you really have enough on your plate without adding housetraining and puppy basic training to the mix? I don’t know any responsible breeder of ANY breed who would sell you a puppy at this time. Right now you should focus on raising your child. There will always be pit bull puppies available from responsible breeders, but your baby will only be a baby for a short time…enjoy the time you have and the wonderful experiences your family is going to have now, and wait til the little one is old enough to enjoy a new puppy safely.
Pit Bulls can be great with children, but in my opinion you should wait until your child is a little bigger or consider getting a full grown dog that has proven to be good with children. Puppies (any breed) do require a lot of attention and training, especially when transitioning from puppy teeth to big dog teeth (they LOVE to chew).
Pit Bulls are sometimes dog aggressive, so if you do decide to get one, please adopt one that is good with other dogs. These dogs are NOT for everyone, they require a specific kind of owner, one who is experienced with the “bully breeds”. American Pit Bull Terriers are excellent with children, one of the best breeds for kids. If they weren’t, why would the television series “The Little Rascals” feature Petey, an American Pit Bull Terrier? If you do decide to get one, please supervise as much as you can, and don’t let your child alone with the dog, or play rough with the dog, also please train the dog to be able to tolerate things such as ear pulling, tail grapping, being near the food bowl, hugging (dogs don’t like this), fur grabbing or anything children do, children do not understand that they can not do certain things with animals. For the people who are saying negative things, Pit Bulls are the ONLY breed of dog specifically bred for non human aggression; in the old days the owners who fought them were IN the pit with them, ANY dog that demonstrated even the slightest aggression towards people was destroyed, after they came home from the fighting ring they were a cherished family pet. The stories that you hear on the news always have more to one side to them, and it’s more than likely that they aren’t even Pit Bulls.
Here is a good website with information on the breeds commonly known as “Pit Bulls”:
http://www.realpitbull.com/
There are many more instances of pit bulls than any other dog breed going berserk and ripping people or other animals apart for no reason. Pit bulls have proven over the years that they are wired differently inside. They are a time bomb with the timer hidden deep inside. There are only 1000 breeds of dogs out there. Pick one that is known only for kindness.
With any breed, never leave a baby unattended with a dog. http://pitbulls.iwarp.com/photo.htmlhttp://badrap.org/rescue/myths.cfm
Train, socialize, and exercise your dog, and things will be just fine.
Although a great breed, I would not recommend you get one right now. I bet you already have your hands full with a new baby…Pit Bulls need lots of extra attention, extra time, and a dedicated owner.
Maybe wait until your child is a bit older.
That being said, you could always adopt an adult Pit Bull from a shelter that’s already trained, good with kids, and you don’t have to go through the puppy phase.
They are not the breed for everybody. Choose widely, and get a dog when you can dedicate a lot of time to it.
I have a 5 month old son and I also have a “pit bull” and I actually trust my dog with my son more than I do some people, take a look at these pictures they speak for themselves http://pitbulls.iwarp.com/photo.html
It’s fine, as long as you’re a responsible dog owner who invests in obedience training & socialization.
So are Rottweilers, actually.
Also, if you know to never leave a child & dog unattended.
Pit Bulls are great family dogs.
No no no no no no! Pit bulls are known to bit and kill. There was a pit bull with a baby a while ago, and this sounds gross, but it ripped the baby’s face off. no kidding, please don’t get a pit bull. they are really vicious
My parents had a pitbull before i was born and once i was born that dog wouldnt leave my side and protected me. She was the best dog ever. They make great pets just make sure the one you get is a puppy so you have time to train.
You are asking for trouble. The new dog and new baby are too much for anyone to handle. The new dog always being rehomed or put in the pound.
they are one of the best dogs with children, SBT’s(staffordshire bull terrier), their cousins, are probably one of the best, if not the best with children
as long as u keep a watch on ur child and up puppy they should be fine also a good idea would be obediance training so that ur puppy will listen to u
as long as you dont leave the baby alone till its old enough
and the dog has gone through training!
