Should My Husband And I Buy A New Car Or Save The Money?
I’ve been e mailing him lately and we have been discussing whether we should buy a 2008 Mustang. He recently got promoted to PFC and the money is “burning a hole in our pockets” lol lol. We don’t have any expenses because I’m staying with our wonderful son at my mother in laws and she pays for everything, including letting me use one of her cars. I’m starting college again in Summer and of course I will be paying fees and for books, but its in state and at the local community college. My mom has agreed to watch the baby while I attend class so no child care expenses. He lives in Army quarters and has his meals and living expenses all provided. He recently bought a new lap top and they have Wi Fi in the place on base he goes to hang out when he is off duty so virtually he doesn’t have any expenes either. Ok, he wants a Mustang (so do I) but is there a space for a baby in the back in an approved child safety seat? What other cars would you recommend?

I’ll leave the obvious financial issues alone. Keep in mind you won’t be “expense-free” forever.
I can tell you from experience: Mustangs and car seats DO NOT go together. If you put the car seat behind the passenger seat, the passenger has to scoot WAY up. It’s not comfy.
Save your money, but if want a car a two door car is not practical not with a baby I suggest buying a used mid sized four door sedan, wagon or even a small SUV. I recommend you pay cash for it that way you don’t have a car payment.
Congratulations on the wonderful things happening in your life. My opinion, don’t buy the mustang. You don’t know what the future will bring. If, god forbid, you break up, or worse, can one income pay the payment? What if you unexpectedly get pregnant again? If you buy a brand new car and have to sell it shortly, you will lose alot of money. You don’t mention how much you have in savings, only that your expenses are low. Could you be contributing to a savings account instead of a $400/month, at least, car payment. Think wisely, don’t make the mistakes I have made.
