If so, is that for all foods, or are just certain things–like just meat and dairy products?

organic doesn’t mean *healthier* as some people say. Yes, with organic, you aren’t getting the pesticides, but that doesn’t make the food healthy in terms of nutrients.
You get the same amount of nutrients in a *regular* apple as you do an organic apple.
That said, I do buy organic certain things. I try to buy organic fruits and veggies of things that I eat the skin, or is hard to wash like apples, grapes, berries, etc. I buy organic or hormone free milk
I don’t worry about getting organic for things that I take the peel or skin off, like oranges, banana’s, etc.
Yes, I do think it’s important. Since a baby’s system is so much less developed than an adults, I think it’s important that everything they eat be organic. I think that adults should eat all organic as well, but unfortunately that’s too expensive for most – but there are some foods that make a big difference when purchased organic, and some that don’t make as big of a difference – and doing things like buying produce from Canada (where they are much more stringent with what chemicals can be put on/in things) can be almost as good.
Anyway, I think we would all be a lot healthier if we ate only organic foods.
It is very important for my baby to eat organically whenever possible. People may say that it doesn’t matter or that there were no “organic” things years ago and that may be the case, but years and years ago we didn’t have things to treat cancer or other serious ailments. Should we not use conventional treatments also? With age comes knowledge and understanding and it is in my mind and heart that I want to best for my baby and I give him organic food in part for that reason. Years ago we did not have as many chemicals and things to make food “better.”
The jarred stuff can get pretty pricey too so I’ve decided to make my own baby food. J is growing and putting on weight like a champ and he is happy. I’m also happy because while he probably wont eat like this forever at least his body will have a chance to develop and grow as much as possible without chemical interferance!
i think it’s important to feed ourselves and all of our families organic. earlier generations say that we grew up just fine without things being organic – but it’s not hard to see that as processing and chemical usage have grown more and more over the years – medical problems have also multiplied over the years – it’s disgusting what bad shape people are in nowadays and i guarantee you what we eat has *everything* to do with it.
Actually, I don’t think it is necessary. I mean, yes, you want the best for your baby but for the most part we (meaning adults) don’t eat organic food most of the time. They did not have organic baby food 10 years ago when I had my twins and they are perfectly healthy growing boys. I think it’s just kind of what each parent wants ya know? There are a few fruits (stage 1 or 2) that you cannot get in regular Gerber or Beechnut. I want my daughter to try everything so I have bought a few jars of organics. They tend to be a tad more expensive.
Im on the “certain things” approach. Like when you know bruised peaches go into cans anyway, they dont use as many pesticides on those.
We also try to shop local, as the toxins from fumes to truck the food over, can cause just as much harm as the pesticides.
As for milk, Im more cuirous now on the hormones in milk in general, and considering going up in fat content.
Nope i dont see it important. This whole organic phase just started the past couple of years. I was raised on none organic food and im health as can be. Im gonna do the same with my child. Why worry. There are so many things out there that are ununhealthyor you and your children like the air you breath and the water you drink. Frankly if you spend so much time worrying about it then your not spending enough time with your kids. There are tons of things that can kill you out there. you could walk out the door and get hit by a car tomorrow. Or a tornado could touch down. I just enjoy the time i have with my family and dont sweat the small stuff. Im prperfectly healthy being raised on none organic food so why shouldnt i let my kids eat none organic.
For me I never used commercial baby food- organic or not. I made my own using fresh fruits, veggies and high quality meats at home. It was healthier and I could control what went into it. It was cheaper to make my own than buy it and I knew if it said “applesauce” that apples were all that was in it. No water, no sugar, no preservatives. Just apples. Same with chicken and rice. I knew it was cooked chicken with cooked rice without the additives.
Now that my son is a toddler I don’t think buying every single thing in organic is necessary, but there are some things I insist that are for my son. His fruit snacks are all organic and sugar free. They taste way better than the one’s that aren’t and have no preservative in them, no fake dyes and no sugars and junk. I also buy his juice organically. Apple and Eve is a great one and he loves their flavors. Sure, I could grab some Motts off the shelf and pay less, but it also comes with watered down results, added dye, sugar and other things- even sodium- that he just doesn’t need. As for fresh fruits and veggies I will buy organic for bananas (pesticides can absorb into banana skins and fruit), berries, tomatoes, anything with a porous skin. As for root veggies like potatoes, leeks, carrots, parsnips etc.. I just buy what’s on the shelf at the best price and freshest possible. For salad mixes I look for organic when I can find it. Milk I buy the store brand regular old boring white milk. There is no taste difference and when it comes to paying $6 for a gallon of milk versus $3.00 the $3.00 milk wins for my grocery budget. Cereals and crackers I buy organic forms of for snacking same with chicken nuggets for my son and pasta, which I buy whole grain and/or organic.
It’s a healthy balance for our house. Some things are worth the few extra dollars to get and other things aren’t to me. I’m not going to be overly one way or another or get nuerotic about “was that jelly bean he ate in the easter basket organic?” or “was that toast organic” because you’d drive yourself crazy with that if not paranoid. Just like enjoying a bowl of hot buttery popcorn at the movies or the occassional sweet it’s everything in moderation and making informed choices using labels and common sense when you buy. If more people took the time to actually read on labels the amount of sugars, salt and fake stuff food producers put in our drinks, snacks and quick fix items from shelves they would probably faint in the aisles at what they would discover. (Did you know there are less salt and sugar additions in a bag of potato chips than there are in some brands of whole grain crackers? Or how about the fact there is 80% sugar in yogurt drinks and those grab from the shelf smoothie drinks and Sunny D.. more than what would be in 2 twelve ounce cans of regular soda? Shocking? It should be.)

No, not at all. As long as the food has been cooked prior to serving, there is no need for organic. Just a way for baby food companies to make money.
I think if you can afford it and want to then go ahead. Me I don’t think it is a necessary thing my baby is just fine and she has regular food.
I just make sure to wash produce well (like I would for myself anyways) and we always give our kids organic/hormone-free milk.
I used to buy the baby organic foods. Now i try and just buy natural ie, not tinned or preserved stuff, Fresh Fruit / veg, Meat etc.
