I’m So Desperate……?

I brought home a kitten that might not have received any shots necessary for this age and he might have some life-threatening diseases that can be easily transmitted to other cats, and I let him go every corner of the house. I have an adult cat and I’m so worried about her catching any of the contagious diseases, the kitten had his own bowls for food and drink and litter box in a seperate room and has never touched my cat’s food though.
Could you please recommend a completely safe way(prefer organic/holistic way that is 100% safe for cats and young babies) to deep clean/disinfect the carpet in my house? Please don’t suggest diluted bleach it’s too hard on cats’ lungs.
Thank you!

  1. Don’t ever put hot water on your carpet!
You don’t need to do anything extreme. Keep the kitten isolated from the other cat for 2 weeks, and wash your hands and change clothes after handling him. The most likely thing he could transmit to your cat would be an upper respiratory infection, and these precautions should be enough.
Don’t panic and don’t get too extreme here. Get the new kitten’s vax on board and let a few weeks go by to make sure that your kitten doesn’t break with anything he may have been exposed to.
Those of us who work in shelters and rescue have had lots of foster cats and kittens in our homes without problems. Remember that although germs cause disease, it’s also more likely that a stressed animal will come down with the disease. If your adult cat is healthy, relaxed and well-vaccinated, he’s not going to pick up anything from your carpet after the cat walked on it.
Blasting the carpet won’t help. Just vacuum thoroughly and do all the things you were going to do anyway. Treating the kitten like toxic waste isn’t necessary, and now you’re stressing out too much. Relax and enjoy the baby. Don’t forget to play with your adult cat, too.

  2. Do you still have the kitten? It’s hard to tell because you switched verb tenses in that first paragraph (had and have).
Anyway, rather than disinfect the whole house, just get the kitten tested.
If the kitten is gone, get the cat tested.

  3. And your adult cat has not had the booster shots? Actually, rare for a fully adult cat to catch most of the diseases. You do need to get kitten tested before you get too attached and find out it may have serious and deadly problems.

  4. Hot Steam Cleaning with white vinegar :)
How more holistic can you get than water and vinegar, just don’t use shampoo.
